Ordering Specs & Details
Is the standard food branding iron available flame-heated?
No. Our standard food branding irons are made from food-safe aluminum, which is ideal for controlled electric heating but not suitable for direct open-flame heating. Aluminum has a lower melting point than stainless steel or brass, so torch heating can overheat or damage the branding head.
For this reason, our standard food-safe aluminum heads are only offered with an electric handle. If you need a flame-heated option, we can recommend a more suitable material or setup depending on what you’re branding.
What size food branding iron should I order?
The best size depends on the shape of your logo and the item being branded. For round logos on burger buns or coconuts, we usually recommend 1.5" to 2" wide. This size gives a visible mark without overpowering the food or requiring too much pressure.
For example, a brioche bun is usually domed, so a larger brand may require rolling the iron across the surface, which can squash the bun. Coconuts also have curved surfaces, so going too large can make it harder to find a flat enough area for a clean impression.
For wide logos, slightly larger sizes may work if the design is not very tall. In some cases, 2.5" to 3" wide can be suitable.
For cocktail garnishes, citrus peels, orange peels, and lemon peels, we usually recommend keeping the design smaller — approximately 0.5" tall to 1.25"–1.5" wide. Smaller marks generally look cleaner and more balanced on garnishes.
Can I use a food branding iron on wood?
Yes. A food branding iron can also be used to brand wooden items such as cutting boards, serving boards, charcuterie boards, and other unfinished wood products.
However, the reverse is not true. A standard wood branding iron should not be used on food, because the branding head may be made from materials that are not intended for direct food contact. For food items, use a food-safe branding head designed specifically for that purpose.
